About Mata Intermediate School
Helen De Los Santos Mata Intermediate School is the Alief Independent School District's fourth Intermediate campus. Opening on August 16, 1999, with over 980 students, the school serves fifth and sixth graders in an environment uniquely tailored to their needs. Mata Intermediate provides a bridge between the elementary and middle schools for its students.
The school motto, "Soaring to new heights," exemplifies the standard for staff and students at Mata. Staff training focuses on best practices for accelerating student learning and addressing students' social and emotional needs. While academic excellence is the highest priority at Mata, teachers and support staff are also committed to helping the students develop social skills and civic responsibility that will enable them to be positive, productive citizens in the Alief community and beyond. A variety of teaching/learning strategies and materials is used to facilitate maximum learning for all students.
Special activities and programs are in place to meet the needs of exceptional learners. With Mata's advanced technology-including networked computers in every classroom, four computer labs, and a state-of-the-art video delivery system-technology skills are integrated into all subject areas.
Parental involvement is critical to students' academic and social success. Mata welcomes parents as active participants in their children's education. Parents contribute invaluably to the Mata learning community through participation in Parent Center activities and regular parent-teacher conferences, service on the Shared Decision-Making Council or as a school volunteer, and visits tot he classrooms. Parents, staff, and community members working together provide the "wind beneath the wings" that enables Mighty Mata Eagle students to reach the heights of excellence.
