Monolingual Pre-K thru 2nd & 4th grade

I am Akeena McDonald and  I am now entering my 21st year of education in Alief. I am also an Alief Elsik & Prairie View A & M University graduate.  I was born and raised in Beaumont, TX but relocated to Alief during my middle school years. I enjoy traveling with family and friends. I also enjoy crafting & baking in my spare time. My focus for all students & staff this year is to have a growth mindset. I am super excited to begin teaching from our new counseling curriculum Character Strong. It will give us great directions on how we should live our lives using positive habits daily.  My goal this year is to give each student I’m responsible for at least “15 min of fame” with the counselor. This means that students who are sometimes overlooked, shy or quiet will get an opportunity to interact with me. I want to build relationships with students so they have a shoulder to lean on & a hand to hold during their time of need.

Welcome to the new school year 2021-2022 at Ruth Sneed Elementary! I am thrilled to be working with the bilingual Pre-Kindergarten to Third-grade classrooms and the Third-grade monolingual classroom. This is my third year as a school counselor! My Education degrees are from the University of Puerto Rico and Salamanca University in Spain. I love to spend my free time with my supportive husband, Carlos, and my three children Paula, Fiama, and Estevan. During this time of COVID-19, I have learned to hope more, be flexible, and value simple things in life, such as a sunset.   My heart goes to serve others with love and dignity. Bienvenidos al nuevo año escolar 2021-2022 de la Escuela Elemental Ruth Sneed. Me siento emocionada de trabajar con los grados bilingües de pre-kindergarten a tercer grado y tercer grado monolingue. También ofreceré servicios de salud mental a todos los grados. ¡Este es mi tercer año como consejera escolar! Mis títulos de educación son de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y la Universidad de Salamanca, España.
