Our budget continues to be a focus. As we face challenges with no new legislation supporting increased pay in public education, we continue to inventory our system to figure out what is working and what is not. What can we afford to keep, and what will we need to abandon because it may not yield the results we want for our students. I am appreciative of the collaborative spirit of Alief as we face our budgetary difficulties together.
As we think about our Strategic Plan and our focus on “Organizational Strength,” our Alief ISD Foundation is a big part of our efforts to support sound financial health. Our foundation has several new members who are passionate about supporting student achievement, teachers, and innovation here in Alief ISD. Our foundation looks forward to covering some of the financial holes as we work to meet Alief’s needs in the absence of additional federal and state funding. We are grateful for community stakeholders serving on our foundation board who step up and lead and support public schools!
Congratulations, Ms. Shadricka Jackson, Kennedy Elementary School’s HAABSE Teacher of the Year! The Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators has acknowledged her exceptional work and I am proud to share that Ms. Jackson was recognized as the second runner up out of almost 300 educators! The impact of effective leadership and dedicated teachers on students’ success cannot be understated. I would also like to extend a special thank you to Kennedy Elementary School Principal, Ms. Sara Caldwell, for her outstanding leadership and support. A nurturing and inspiring environment plays a significant role in shaping our children’s academic achievements and personal growth.

Celebrations
Congratulations to the Elsik Ninth Grade HOSA members who represented our district at the 2024 HOSA Area 2 Spring Conference on January 11th and 12th. They competed in a variety of leadership and teamwork events. Jenny Tang earned first place in Speaking Skills and Thomas Hernandez earned first place in Interview Skills. Aniyha Dupar and Hailey Gonzalez also placed in the top 10 in their event, Job Seeking Skills. Jenny and Thomas will be moving on to compete at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in April.
Mrs. Dee Jones, Business and Community Partnership Coordinator at Alief ISD, was honored by the Westchase District as a recipient of the Community Impact Award. Congratulations to Mrs. Jones for this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your valuable contributions to our community.
Martin Tine, an Elsik alum, and current scholar-athlete on the football team at the University of California, Berkeley, has been recognized by the Jonathan & Judy Hoff Scholar-Athlete of the Week program for embracing the process of transition, exploration, and discovery with an open mindset and dedication to self development and awareness, both in the classroom and on the field. We are very proud of Martin and acknowledge the role that the Elsik community has played in preparing him both academically and athletically.
