Hicks Elementary is proud to present Katherine Soto as the 2023 -2024 teacher of the year.
Ms. Soto was born and rise in Houston, Texas. During her free time, she finds joy in utilizing her Cricut machine, cooking, traveling with her spouse, engaging in do-it-yourself projects, and tending to her garden. She also values returning home to spend quality time with their pet huskies.
From a tender age, Katherine nurtured a dream of venturing into teaching and immersing herself in this remarkable profession. She successfully met all the prerequisites and transitioned into teaching within a meticulous curriculum framework at the district, which equipped her for the subsequent phases of her academic journey. During her childhood and teenage years, she was a student in the Alief school system, attending schools such as Hicks, Hearne, Landis, Miller, Albright, and Hastings. She accomplished her Bachelor of Science in Teaching and Learning EC-6 from the University of Houston. Recently, she completed her Master's degree at Houston Christian University (formerly Houston Baptist University), specializing in the Master of Science in Learning, Technology, and Design program. Her ultimate ambition is to obtain a doctorate degree and venture into academia as a professor. Katherine possesses a fervent dedication to teaching and eagerly anticipates the opportunity to educate aspiring teachers, imparting her wisdom and experiences to them.
Currently in her role as a kindergarten teacher, Katherine derives immense pleasure from witnessing her students progress throughout the academic year. Her aspirations revolve around influencing students positively, nurturing them into lifelong learners. Additionally, she is proud to hold the title of Teacher of the Year at Hicks Elementary for the 2023-2024 academic year.Hick
