AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities.
AVID Secondary starts with an elective class for one period a day, where students learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable.
Mission Statement
AVID provides professional learning for educators to improve college readiness for all students, especially those who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Through professional development, students receive instruction from AVID trained teachers, increasing their competence and confidence when employing those formidable 21st century skills. Our students will achieve post-secondary success and be prepared to compete in the ever-changing landscape of our global society! To solidify the future success of our students, Killough AVID and its students will:
