The “Girls in STEM” mentor program recently
concluded its successful 10-week mentoring
program aimed at inspiring middle school girls to
pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics (STEM). The program engaged
students from Mata and Youngblood Intermediate Schools and Holub and Killough Middle schools.
The mentor program provided the participants with valuable insights and hands-on experiences.
"The Girls in STEM collaboration was a unique opportunity that granted our young female students
of Alief ISD an exposure moment of career-fields connected with Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics,” expressed Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction Everett
Hare Sr. “The series of learning sessions were valuable, as the immersion of hands-on learning
techniques and dialogue with experienced women in various corporate entities cultivates the
academic dreams of aspirant careers. We extend our gratitude to InfoSys, BP, and all of the
collaborative partners that were inclusive to this treasured experience.”
Employees from BP and Infosys volunteered their time to mentor
the young participants on a weekly basis. The mentors shared
their expertise, experiences, and passion for STEM fields,
guiding the students through the Learning Blade platform to explore various STEM careers.
Additionally, the participants were connected with the Mission Women Mentors initiative, creating a
supportive network of women in STEM.
“The Infosys Foundation USA is proud to collaborate with BP on
this first-ever corporate collaboration ‘Girls in STEM’ program,”
said Katherine Maloney, Executive Director, Infosys Foundation
USA. “By providing mentorship and hands-on experiences, we
aim to ignite the passion for STEM among middle school girls
and pave the way for their future success in these fields. Together, we can make a meaningful
impact on closing the gender gap in STEM professions and awaken the future generation to the
importance of digital skill building.”
Partnerships are so important to the growth and sustainability of our public schools as well as our
economy. Infosys and BP are investing in our students’ future and providing them with access to the
STEM field, which will continue to evolve for years to come.
